چکیده
In 1940, the Hungarian mathematician Paul Turán was sent to a forced labor camp by the Nazis. Though every part of his life was brutally controlled, he still managed to do serious mathematics under the most extreme conditions. While forced to collect wire from former neighborhoods, he would be thinking about mathematics. When he found scraps of paper, he wrote down his theorems and conjectures. Some of these scraps were smuggled to Paul Erdős. One problem he developed is now called the brick factory problem.

META-HEURISTIC ALGORITHMS FOR MINIMIZING THE NUMBER OF CROSSING OF COMPLETE GRAPHS AND COMPLETE BIPARTITE GRAPHS
The minimum crossing number problem is among the oldest and most fundamental problems arising in the area of automatic graph drawing. In this paper, eight population-based meta-heuristic algorithms are utilized to tackle the minimum crossing number problem for two special types of graphs, namely complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs. A 2-page book drawing representation is employed for ...
متن کاملMETAHEURISTIC ALGORITHMS FOR MINIMUM CROSSING NUMBER PROBLEM
This paper presents the application of metaheuristic methods to the minimum crossing number problem for the first time. These algorithms including particle swarm optimization, improved ray optimization, colliding bodies optimization and enhanced colliding bodies optimization. For each method, a pseudo code is provided. The crossing number problem is NP-hard and has important applications in eng...
متن کاملCrossing Numbers on the Disk with Multiple Holes
In this paper we look at the crossing number, pair crossing number, and odd crossing number of graphs on a disk with multiple holes. We provide an upper bound ⌊ (n−1)2 4 ⌋ for the odd crossing number of graphs on the annulus with n edges. For graphs on a disk with multiple holes, we develop polynomial time algorithms to find the number of crossings between two edges, given their homotopy classe...
متن کاملOn the crossing numbers of Cartesian products of stars and graphs of order six
The crossing number cr(G) of a graph G is the minimal number of crossings over all drawings of G in the plane. According to their special structure, the class of Cartesian products of two graphs is one of few graph classes for which some exact values of crossing numbers were obtained. The crossing numbers of Cartesian products of paths, cycles or stars with all graphs of order at most four are ...
متن کاملThe crossing numbers of join products of paths with graphs of order four
Kulli and Muddebihal [V.R. Kulli, M.H. Muddebihal, Characterization of join graphs with crossing number zero, Far East J. Appl. Math. 5 (2001) 87–97] gave the characterization of all pairs of graphs which join product is planar graph. The crossing number cr(G) of a graph G is the minimal number of crossings over all drawings of G in the plane. There are only few results concerning crossing numb...
متن کاملGeneral Lower Bounds for the Minor Crossing Number of Graphs
There are three general lower bound techniques for the crossing numbers of graphs: the Crossing Lemma, the bisection method and the embedding method. In this contribution, we present their adaptations to the minor crossing number. Using the adapted bounds, we improve on the known bounds on the minor crossing number of hypercubes. We also point out relations of the minor crossing number to strin...
